Submissions

The Shepherd is a monthly magazine dedicated to covering the domestic sheep and goat industry in the United States, with some international coverage as well. Here are a few tips on submissions to the magazine. All submissions should be emailed to: theshepherdmag@gmail.com.

Releases

We’re glad to help get the word out about news, research, and events of interest to our readers. Please send us press releases at least 45 days prior to a scheduled event.

Reader Contributions

We welcome content from our readers, and provide complimentary copies to authors of feature articles. Please send articles in electronic format, such as Microsoft Word.

Coming Soon

We welcome submissions to our calendar of events “Coming Soon” listings, which are provided free of charge and as space allows.

Photos

We enjoy receiving submissions for consideration for the cover of The Shepherd. These images should be vertical, with room at the top right corner for the magazine’s banner. Cover images should be of sheep or goats, with or without guardian animals. Include a caption describing when and where the photo was taken, as well as the name of the photographer.

We also accept submissions of photos for the inside of the magazine – consider submitting 4-5 images for use in our "A View From ..." feature. Please provide a sentence we can use as a caption, describing the breed included, the owner, the location where the image was taken, and the name of the photographer.

Don't forget to include your name and mailing address so we can send your complimentary copies should we select your work. We only use high-resolution digital images, so be sure the image is saved as a .JPG and is at least 300 dpi.

Email attachments should not exceed 4MB in size.
