The Shepherd Builds on 70 Years of Excellence
Veteran Journalist Rebecca Miller Guides The Shepherd Magazine
LISBON, Ohio — Rebecca Miller, of Lisbon, Ohio, is the new editor and publisher of The Shepherd magazine, a monthly print publication that is in its 70th year of providing premium information on small ruminants in the United States.
The magazine has transitioned back to Ohio from Wyoming, where it was located for 12 years with its previous owners, Pete Arambel and Cat Ubigkit, who was also the editor.
Miller, a journalism veteran of more the 20 years, took over leadership of The Shepherd in early 2024. She has worked at daily newspapers in Wyoming, Montana, and New Hampshire; in higher education communications, where she led an award-winning national alumni magazine; and in East Africa, where she covered media projects throughout Kenya, and in South Sudan, Tanzania, and Niger.
Most recently, she was editor-in-chief of agricultural weekly Farm and Dairy newspaper, in Salem, Ohio, and led her newsroom to national and international accolades for its reporting.
She is a member of the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association, and is a past director of the Ohio Sheep and Wool Program checkoff. She is on the American Sheep Industry Association’s Predator Management Committee and is a founding board member of Great Lakes Natural Fiber, a non-profit seeking to help regional producers find alternative value-added uses for wool.
In addition to running her family’s 200-acre commercial sheep farm, she manages an expanding pack of Turkish livestock guardian dogs, as well as border collies and an intrepid Jack Russell terrier named Bette.
